hinterland should serve as a bird's nest. The majority of the events will take place at hinterland and in the Krongarten, we will also try to lay a net over the city to approach the topic TOGETHER.
In our library there are already many publications on the epic, as well as other works on the topic. The first "guidebooks" are ready. The library is growing steadily throughout our project. We also want to create an object library, calling on all fellow travelers to add a piece of knowledge on our journey to the Festival of Birds. A new collection is being created.

we may take flight together,

but the journey itself will be different for each of us” (1)

Based on the epic Conference of the Birds by Farid Al-Din Attar, we search for similar origins in different cultures, bring them together, compare them and distill generally valid topics for our daily life: tradition meets the present; artistic interpretation meets everyday objects of use; symbols from history are adopted, reinterpreted, designed and used. Transculturality and cross-disciplinary approaches as well as the integration of new venues and target groups are the focus of this project. Together we start a journey.

With our bird talks we take a look at the themes behind the epic from different angles and approach this epochal story together. Based on the narrative of Attar's Conference of the Birds, main themes of the story will be processed. We will begin with the observation and symbolism of birds. Birds have always played an important role in our society; as symbolism in art as well as in our daily life. How does Farid Ud-Din Attar use the example of birds to place the values of cohesion, self-discovery and love? How is all this interpreted at the same time in Central Europe? What do these texts from the 12th century connect with the present? 
In cooperation with experts and institutions we want to analyze how collective action can help to deal with individual strengths and hurdles - or as Attar calls them in his story - "valleys".

[2] Farid Al-Din Attar (1142-1221), born in Nizhapour, Iran, is one of the greatest Persian Sufi mystics, along with Hafiz and Rumi. He worked as a druggist, collected 97 biographies of classical Sufi dervishes, lost his life in the Mongol storm at the age of about 100, and left behind several rhymed mathnawi/lehreps.

hinterland soll als Vogelnest dienen. Im hinterland und auch im Krongarten werden der Grossteil der Veranstaltungen stattfinden, auch wenn wir versuchen ein Netz über die Stadt zu legen, um uns GEMEINSAM dem Thema anzunähern.

In unserer Bibliothek befinden sich bereits viele Publikationen zum Epos sowie auch weitere Arbeiten zum Thema. Die ersten “Reiseführer” stehen bereit. Die Bibliothek wächst gemeinsam mit unserem Projekt. Ebenso wollen wir auch eine Objektbibliothek anlegen, die alle Mitreisende dazu aufruft, ein Stück Wissen in materieller Form auf unserer Reise zum Fest der Vögel hinzuzufügen. Eine neue Sammlung entsteht.

“"Wie die Vögel in der Geschichte,

können wir gemeinsam fliegen,

aber die Reise selbst wird für jeden von uns anders sein”(1)

Basierend auf dem Epos Konferenz der Vögel von Farid Al-Din Attar[2] suchen wir ähnliche Ursprünge in unterschiedlichen Kulturen, bringen sie zusammen, vergleichen sie und destillieren allgemein Gültiges für unsere heutige Gegenwart heraus: Tradition trifft Gegenwart; künstlerische Interpretation trifft alltägliche Gebrauchsgegenstände; Symbole aus der Geschichte werden übernommen, neu interpretiert, gestaltet und benutzt. Transkulturalität und disziplinübergreifende Ansätze sowie die Einbindung neuer Orte und Zielgruppen stehen im Fokus dieses Projektes. Gemeinsam gehen wir auf Reisen.

Mit unseren Vogelgesprächen wollen wir die hinter dem Epos liegenden Themen aus verschiedenen Blickwinkeln betrachten und uns gemeinsam dieser epochalen Geschichte nähern. Anhand des Narrativs von Attars Konferenz der Vögel werden Hauptthemen der Geschichte aufgearbeitet. Beginnen wollen wir mit der Betrachtung und Symbolik der Vögel. Vögel spielen seit jeher eine wichtige Rolle in unserer Gesellschaft; als Kunstsymbolik ebenso wie in unserem Alltag. Wie stellt Farid Ud-Din Attar am Beispiel von Vögeln die Werte des Zusammenhalts, der Selbstfindung und der Liebe in den Raum? Wie wird all dies zur selben Zeit in Mitteleuropa gedeutet? Was verbinden diese Texte aus dem 12. Jahrhundert mit der Gegenwart?

Gemeinsam mit Expert*innen und Institutionen wollen wir analysieren, wie kollektives Wirken dazu beitragen kann, sich mit individuellen Stärken und Hürden - oder wie Attar sie in seiner Geschichte nennt - „Täler“ - auseinanderzusetzen.
